Dark natural inclusions move through the stone, giving each earring depth and character.

The name was chosen to reflect the traditional meaning of the roimata—grief, loss, and emotional release—combined with the qualities of the manu, which represents guidance, awareness, and direction. This taonga is a long roimata carved as a stylised manu form, measuring 95mm in length. The eye-like opening at the top narrows into a fine, beak-like point, giving the piece a sense of movement and intent. A white rind at the tip reads like a tail feather, adding contrast and reinforcing the manu form. Carved from translucent serpentine Bowenite Pounamu from the Tasman area, the stone appears deep green in natural light and reveals its inner depth when held to the sun.
