Porohita Koru in Totoweka
I made this for my son, he is currently 8 years old. I made it to show my love for him, this way he can carry this tangible reminder with him that I love him, that I care for him, that he is special and important.
It is deep green kawa kawa pounamu with a blaze of reddish brown totoweka through the middle. This colour is appropriate for him being a fire star sign, this represents his inner strength and will. A koru represent growth and being a part of a whanau, my whanau. A porohita or circle represents being centered and focused in our connections with others.
A few shots of the process of the making. It is a very translucent pounamu, you can see right to the heart of it when you hold it to the light, and the totoweka colouring stands out as well.
