Te Ara Tahi, meaning “the shared path”, is an Aroha stone pendant I carved to represent two people travelling through life together. It brings together their enduring partnership, memories of a journey through the South Island, and the experiences still ahead. The commission marked a 50th birthday and 25 years together, both celebrated during their…
I have named this taonga Te Marama Mana — the moon of strength and authority. This piece is about presence. It is about mana wahine. It represents a woman who stands fully in who she is, steady and assured, carrying her influence with calm confidence. Carved as a marama, the circular form speaks to completeness…
This taonga was carved as a companion piece to a Hei Toki I had previously made for a father, gifted to him by his rugby team for his 50th birthday. When he got in touch again, it was because he wanted something equally meaningful for his daughter – a piece that spoke to who she…
This piece is named Kotahitanga, meaning unity and oneness. The Porohita, or circle form, symbolises the cycles of life — connection, balance, and the unbroken flow between people, generations, and the natural world. It represents completeness, a reminder that everything is part of a greater whole. On the front, a single Koru flows across the…
This special set of taonga, named Ngā Piringa Rua (The Two Connections), was made for a couple living in the UK who, while making a happy life overseas, still hold a deep connection to Aotearoa. The name reflects both their connection to each other and their shared bond with their sons and the whenua of…
This set of taonga is called Te Piringa Aroha — “The Shelter of Love.” It was carved from Kawakawa Pounamu sourced from the Arahura River, a stone known for its grounding energy and deep green colour, often linked with healing and connection. The porohita is 5cm wide and features a 3-hole ringbolt lashing across the…
This set of four taonga, named Whānau Koru, was created to symbolise deep connection, whakapapa, and the strength found in whānau. Each piece carries the same etched koru design and was carved from the same piece of Pounamu to keep them physically and symbolically connected. The name Whānau Koru captures what these taonga stand for…
I’ve recently carved this Kokopu Pounamu Porohita, a 60mm circular pendant with an incredible speckled pattern that gives this stone its name. Kokopu Pounamu is named after the native freshwater fish of Aotearoa, known for their distinctive spots. This type of Pounamu often carries earthy green and brown tones with unique markings, making every piece…
For a milestone 60th birthday, I was honoured to create a unique Pounamu carving set commissioned for a mother-in-law. This special set, named Puna Hauora, symbolises the Spring of Life she provides for her family—a source of nurturing, strength, and connection. The centrepiece of the set is a 7cm-wide Porohita disc pendant. The Porohita, or…
Creating this set of Pounamu has been a truly special journey, and it feels only fitting to name it Te Ara Kōhatu, which translates to The Journey of the Stone. This name reflects not only the path the Pounamu has taken—from being discovered by the customer to being shaped into these four pieces—but also the…
