Mana Tohu – Horoeka Haemata

Certain moments call for gifts that encapsulate more than just beauty – they embody substance, history, and a profound significance. As we bid farewell to a respected senior leader from Rolleston College – Horoeka Haemata, a remarkable token of appreciation has been thoughtfully curated – a Pounamu Toki, named Mana Tohu, translating to “Sign of Prestige”. More than a piece of jewellery, Mana Tohu is a cultural heirloom, an emblem of authority, and a testament to New Zealand’s rich heritage.

Immaculately designed in the form of a modern day wood chisel, Mana Tohu is a 7cm masterpiece that beautifully showcases the rich craftsmanship of the carver. Crafted from inanga pounamu, a variety of New Zealand jade, it exhibits a magnificent opaque, pale green colour and unique patterning. When the light hits it just right, its radiant sheen mesmerises anyone who beholds it.

On the back of Mana Tohu, the logo of Rolleston College – Horoeka Haemata is intricately etched, serving as a constant reminder of the community that this leader nurtured and shaped during their tenure.

Inanga Pounamu, the heart of Mana Tohu, holds a special place in Māori tradition. Named after the juvenile native whitebait fish due to its similar hue, inanga pounamu radiates a soft pale green colour. Each stone possesses distinctive markings and unique beauty.

The toki signifies strength, courage, determination, focus, and control – characteristics that have been inherent in the leadership style of our departing leader. The name of our toki, Mana Tohu, reinforces this symbolism, acknowledging the prestige and authority that our senior leader upheld during their tenure at Rolleston College – Horoeka Haemata.

As we bid farewell to a beloved leader, Mana Tohu stands as a tribute – a Pounamu Toki that embodies the Rolleston College – Horoeka Haemata spirit and encapsulates the legacy they’ve left behind. This is more than a gift; it’s an homage to their journey, their influence, and their steadfast commitment.

Every time they look at Mana Tohu, they’ll remember the lives they’ve impacted, the growth they’ve inspired, and the difference they’ve made. Like the inanga pounamu carrying the essence of one’s ancestors, our leader takes with them the essence of Rolleston College – Horoeka Haemata into their new journey, forever reminding them of their “Sign of Prestige”.
