Te Whao Roimata – The tears of the chisel. This speaks to the marks left by a life of effort, growth, and creation. Carved from deep, dark Kawakawa Pounamu, this 85mm Roimata carries a soft rind at the base and a cloud-like feature within the stone, reflecting the depth and individuality of the person who wears it.
The Roimata is a taonga associated with healing, resilience, reflection, and enduring connection. Worn close to the heart, it serves as a reminder of the experiences and relationships that shape our lives. This 55mm Roimata is carved from highly translucent Kahurangi Pounamu and finished with a traditional Roimata lashing in black. Its organic form and softly textured surface highlight the natural character of the stone.
This 90mm Roimata is carved from dark grey Urirui Pākohe, known for its depth of colour and subtle grain. Long and slender, it’s finished with a black spiral lashing that complements the stone’s natural strength. A striking taonga that feels both grounded and refined.
This unique whatuaho (greywacke) pendant, crafted from a West Coast beach pebble, showcases the natural beauty of the stone. Measuring 6cm long, it features a tan lashing with a ringbolt lashing style using half hitches across three holes at the top.
Hononga Tuku Iho celebrates connection carried across generations. This matching set includes an 80mm Roimata and an 80mm Toki, both carved from the same piece of deep green Kawakawa Pounamu. Sharing the same patterning and translucency, the two taonga remain connected through the stone from which they came. Finished with black lashings, they are a meaningful expression of connection between people, place, and whakapapa.
Māramatanga is a roimata made from highly translucent Kahurangi Pounamu. The name Māramatanga means clarity, understanding, and illumination, chosen to reflect how easily light passes through the stone, revealing its inner depth. This piece was shaped through tumbling in my workshop, giving the surface a natural texture and strong character, and is finished with a simple black lashing.
