Description
Carved by David Curtis from beautiful kahurangi pounamu, Te Puna Aroha is a delicate 50 mm roimata created for comfortable everyday wear. Lightweight and elegant, it features a softly bevelled edge along the lower portion of the carving, giving the classic form a subtle sense of depth and refinement. A simple black drop-hole lashing follows the sides of the pendant, allowing the beauty of the pounamu to remain the focus.
The roimata, often translated as “teardrop,” is a symbol of compassion, healing, empathy, and emotional resilience. Traditionally worn to acknowledge times of reflection and remembrance, it also represents the strength that comes from embracing life’s experiences with an open heart. Rather than being a symbol of sadness alone, the roimata reminds us that kindness, understanding, and perseverance are qualities that carry us through both challenges and moments of joy.
The clear, vibrant green of kahurangi pounamu gives this taonga a remarkable depth and luminosity, glowing beautifully when held to the light. Its understated size and lightweight feel make it an ideal companion for everyday life, offering a quiet reminder to move through the world with compassion, strength, and grace.
