Kawa Kawa Comfort Drop

Pounamu, often referred to as New Zealand greenstone, holds a cherished place in Maori culture. Hailing from South Westland, the kawa kawa variety is particularly noteworthy for its distinctive bright green hue. From this precious stone, I’ve crafted a pendant named the “Kawakawa Comfort Drop,” a 4cm long piece that beautifully adopts the teardrop, or roimata, shape.

Beyond its visual appeal, the roimata shape carries profound meaning in the Maori tradition. It serves as a symbol of solace, healing, and deep empathy. The act of gifting a roimata pendant like the Kawakawa Comfort Drop is often a gesture of extended support and understanding, offering a tangible touchstone of shared emotions and connection.

The Kawakawa Comfort Drop is not merely an ornament; it’s a bridge to the rich Maori heritage. With its origins in South Westland and the deep cultural symbolism it embodies, this pendant offers more than beauty — it’s a piece that intertwines history, emotion, and tradition.
