Nga Tamariki

This is a set made for the 5 children. 3 kohine and 2 tama.

The three roimata are for the kohine/girls, and the two toki are for the tama/boys, who are actually twins.

What I didn’t know when I started this set was that the twins had not been born yet! Originally these were going to be classically unadorned toki, however, sadly one of the twins was stillborn. We decided to add a koru to each which made a heart when they were joined for them. Also added his initials to the back of the one that passed away.

This set is all carved from the same piece of pounamu. As such it will have an inherent connection between the pieces that is enhanced only by the connection they already have as siblings.

  • Toa Moana – Ocean Warrior

Toa Moana – Ocean Warrior – is the name I’ve given this 8cm Pounamu Toki. It speaks to the strength and identity carried across the sea, connecting Aotearoa and Samoa.
