Description
The Manaia is one of the most recognised forms in Pounamu carving, a guardian spirit said to protect the wearer from harm and act as a guide between the physical and spiritual worlds. This particular taonga, named Manaia Aroha, emphasises not just guardianship but also love — aroha — as a source of strength, connection, and balance in life.
Carved from Inanga Pounamu, the stone shows soft pale green hues, deeper green veins, and a golden-yellow edge left by the grind, adding a warm glow to its form. Paua shell inlay brings the eye to life, shining with iridescent colour and reinforcing the Manaia’s role as a watchful protector. At 75mm long, it sits beautifully on its black cord, ready to be worn close to the heart.
