Description
This 70mm Roimata is carved from beautifully striped grey Pakohe from the Takaka region, known for its layered beauty and historic importance. Pakohe was highly valued by Māori for tools and taonga, prized for its strength and durability. In this piece, its textured grain and subtle banding bring depth and movement to the surface, reminding us of both the land it comes from and the stories it holds.
The Roimata shape, with its gentle taper at both ends, symbolises healing, compassion, and the flow of emotion. It’s a shape often given to offer comfort, peace, and connection. This taonga is bound with a tight black spiral lashing that anchors the piece while letting its natural form shine.
