Description

This Roimata pendant is carved from Raukāraka Inanga Pounamu, a stone known for its warm, golden tones and silky texture. In parts, it also shows the soft, misty qualities of Inanga colouring, adding to its visual depth. The teardrop shape symbolises healing and connection, while the flowing form makes it comforting to hold and wear. At 100mm long, it’s a larger taonga that makes a strong impression, with stunning colour variations across the surface.

The base of the Roimata has been shaped with a cutting edge reminiscent of a whao (chisel), invoking the energy of craftsmanship, shaping, and purposeful action. The lashing features a honey-white cord with a clean four-plait braid, allowing the beauty of the stone to take centre stage. The name “Rau Kawea” means “that which is carried,” acknowledging the way taonga like this hold and transmit our stories, our wairua, and our aroha.
