Koru Roimata Earrings in Translucent Pounamu

This pair of Pounamu earrings was carved as a leaving gift for a valued member of an organisation, marking their time, contribution, and the connections they carry forward.

Each piece is 40mm long and shaped in a wide Roimata form, giving them a strong but balanced presence when worn. The stone is highly translucent, with a soft mix of very light green, bands of deeper green, and pale, almost white inclusions running through it. When held up to the light, these layers come through clearly, revealing the natural structure of the Pounamu and giving the earrings a sense of depth and movement.

The design is based on the organisation’s logo, with koru elements carved into each piece. While the koru traditionally represents growth and continuation, in this case it also reflects the identity and values of the organisation itself. The meaning sits primarily with the people who commissioned it and the person receiving it, making these earrings specific to that shared story.

As earrings, the Roimata form carries a quiet presence. It sits close, worn regularly, rather than set aside. It’s a form that lends itself well to something personal like this—something that acknowledges a chapter while still being part of what comes next.

There was a real focus on consistency in this pair, keeping the proportions, curves, and carved elements even across both pieces so they sit well together when worn. Small variations in the stone give each one its own character, but they remain clearly connected as a set.

A simple piece on the surface, but one that holds a specific purpose—marking a moment, and carrying it forward.
