Pounamu Comfort Drop

Pounamu (greenstone) possesses a unique energy, a connection to the land and its history. That’s one of the reasons I love working with this precious stone, transforming it into pieces that hold meaning for those who wear them.

Recently, I had the pleasure of carving a small roimata pendant – a traditional teardrop shape known as a pounamu comfort drop. The roimata symbolizes comfort and solace, making it a particularly special design to work with.

I aimed to infuse the pounamu comfort drop with a sense of peace. Carving pounamu takes time and care; the stone dictates its own transformation. As it took shape, I imagined the wearer finding strength and reassurance in its smooth form.

Pounamu is believed to carry the mana (spiritual energy) of Aotearoa (New Zealand). This pounamu comfort drop, I hope, will be a constant reminder that even in difficult times, there’s support and the promise of brighter days ahead.
