Bead Bracelet
This Pounamu bracelet that combines craftsmanship and symbolism. The bracelet features two handmade beads, each carved from distinct types of Pounamu. One bead is deep green Kawakawa Pounamu, known for its rich tones and grounding energy, while the other is bright green Kahurangi Pounamu, celebrated for its rarity, clarity, and spiritual lightness.
Both beads were shaped and polished by hand, allowing the unique characteristics of each stone to shine through. These two contrasting yet complementary stones symbolise balance, connection, and harmony—qualities that reflect the wearer’s journey and relationships.
The beads are strung on a durable black 4-braid cord, which I braided by hand. The cord features adjustable knots, ensuring the bracelet can be worn comfortably while offering a modern, versatile design. The black cord provides a striking contrast to the vibrant greens of the Pounamu, allowing the stones to stand out and radiate their natural beauty.
This bracelet serves as a meaningful taonga (treasure), connecting the wearer to the natural world and the deeper cultural significance of Pounamu. Kawakawa Pounamu is known for its protective qualities, symbolising strength and resilience, while Kahurangi Pounamu often represents clarity, wisdom, and hope. Together, they tell a story of unity and balance, making this piece both personal and powerful.
