6cm Pounamu Cross

I recently completed a commission for a 6cm cross carved from Kawakawa Pounamu. Kawakawa Pounamu is known for its deep green hues and rich, natural patterns that carry a sense of connection to the land and history of Aotearoa.

The cross shape holds significant meaning for many, symbolising faith, strength, and guidance. It’s a shape that transcends cultures and speaks to a sense of spiritual grounding and support. Carving this piece, I focused on creating smooth, clean lines that complement the natural flow of the stone’s patterns, aiming to preserve the raw beauty and power of the Pounamu.

This taonga serves as a meaningful keepsake, connecting the wearer to the rich tradition and spiritual resonance of Pounamu. It was an honour to shape this piece, knowing it will be a treasured part of someone’s journey.
