Handmade Pounamu Bead Bracelet

This handcrafted bracelet showcases the beauty and variety of New Zealand’s Pounamu. I’ve selected three distinct types of Pounamu to highlight their unique colors and contrasts.

The beads are all handmade, with each one a different variety of Pounamu:

  • Kahurangi: A bright green stone known for its clarity and vibrant hue.
  • Inanga: A pale green Pounamu with a softer, milky tone that provides a beautiful contrast.
  • Kawakawa: A deep green Pounamu, rich and earthy, adding depth to the design.

These three stones are strung on a 4-braid cord that I’ve crafted by hand, ensuring strength and a tactile, organic feel. The toggle attachment is also handmade, making the piece entirely unique.

The blend of colors and textures makes this bracelet not only visually striking but also a meaningful representation of the diversity found in New Zealand’s Pounamu. Whether worn as a daily accessory or kept as a special taonga, this bracelet holds the power and beauty of Aotearoa.

The name makes the meaning explicit: this stone has always belonged to the collective. By becoming a roimata and…
