Gnarly Treble Clef

Creating this piece surely was a journey for myself. The original plan was to design something for a birthday based on this treble clef design by Marika Pounamu. This is what we ended up with.

This piece was multi layered and truly 3 dimensional. You can see all the aspects to it in this video.

This is where we started with a few sketches talking about the concept of the treble clef and getting the right amount of gnarly. With the larger image at the bottom being the final.

Then we chose the pounamu and added the design to it.

Then the most dramatic part was the cutting and rough shaping of the piece. I had to pause half way through this to make the plasticine model to get my head around where the different parts would go.

And then there was lots of sanding to smooth it all out before the polishing. Lost of patience thrown in there too.
