He Toki Whakapapa – A Toki of Heritage and Strength
This 60mm toki was carved from a unique piece of Pounamu, blending light and dark greens that shimmer through the surface. It was made for someone whose life bridges two worlds – Samoa and Aotearoa – and the design we created reflects that deep connection.

Carved into the toki are several important Samoan symbols. Shark teeth (niho malie) are arranged along the base. These symbolise bravery, protection, and guidance, often used in traditional tatau to represent courage and a warrior spirit. Spearheads (fao) sit in the centre. These represent strength, leadership, and service to the community – key values in Samoan culture and identity. Baskets (ato) are carved across the top. These symbolise knowledge, family, and the passing down of wisdom and responsibilities through generations.

This taonga ties together two lands and cultures, honouring both. It holds the stories of where the wearer comes from and the path they are on, grounded in strength, family, and heritage.
