Te Ara me te Manawa brings together two taonga carved from the same remarkable piece of Whakatū pounamu. The hei toki represents strength, determination and the courage to shape your own path, while the roimata speaks of compassion, healing and emotional resilience. The pounamu is a striking pale green with dramatic dark brown dendritic inclusions and warm earthy tones flowing through the stone, creating a pattern that is completely unique. Both taonga measure 75 mm in length and are suspended on black cords, remaining forever connected through the stone they were carved from.

Te Ara me te Manawa means The Path and the Heart. This pair of taonga was carved from the same exceptional piece of Whakatū pounamu from the Nelson region, ensuring that although each pendant has its own purpose and symbolism, they remain connected by their shared origin.
The hei toki represents strength, courage and perseverance. Traditionally associated with leadership and determination, it symbolises the ability to overcome challenges and continue moving forward with purpose. It is a reminder that every path is shaped by the choices we make and the resilience we show along the way.
The roimata offers a complementary meaning. Often associated with healing, empathy and emotional strength, its flowing form reminds us that true resilience comes not only from determination but also from compassion, reflection and care for those around us. The gently angled base gives this piece its own distinctive character while maintaining the elegant lines of the traditional form.
The pounamu itself is what makes this set truly distinctive. Its soft pale green base is crossed with rich brown tones and dramatic dendritic inclusions that create natural patterns unlike any other stone. In places the markings even resemble the appearance of kōkopu pounamu, giving the pair incredible visual depth and character while remaining a unique Whakatū stone.
