Description

This Tangiwaī Roimata is carved from a unique serpentine Pounamu cobble I found on a beach—a piece that surprised me with its unexpected translucency. From the moment I picked it up, I could tell there was something interesting hidden inside. I documented the full journey in a video, showing each stage of the process—from the raw beach cobble through to the finished taonga.

Measuring 7cm long, this Roimata has a smooth, gently curved form. The stone has a striking mix of yellowy-orange tones, blending with darker shades that run through it in natural patterns. Under the light, the Pounamu reveals its translucency and depth—something rarely seen in a stone that began its life as a simple beach find.

Roimata symbolise healing, connection, and the flow of emotion. This piece carries the added story of its transformation—from something unassuming into a taonga to be worn and treasured.

Every mark on this piece reflects its journey, both through nature and through my hands in the workshop. The story, the stone, and the process are all captured in the finished piece.
