This matching pair of Roimata has been carved from the same piece of bright green Kahurangi Pounamu, creating a strong visual and symbolic connection between the two taonga. A vivid dark inclusion runs through both pieces, naturally linking them together and reflecting relationships such as tuakana-teina, parent and child, or close whānau bonds. The larger Roimata measures 80mm and the smaller 45mm, both finished with black three-hole ring bolt lashings.

Description

Hononga Tūturu is a paired set of Roimata carved from the same piece of Kahurangi Pounamu. The connection between these taonga is immediately visible through the vivid patterning within the stone, especially the striking dark inclusion that flows from one piece into the other. It creates a natural line of continuity between them, symbolising shared journeys, whakapapa, and enduring relationships.

The larger Roimata measures 80mm, while the smaller is 45mm, giving the pair a natural sense of tuakana-teina. They could represent a parent and child, siblings, partners, or two people connected through shared experience and support. Carving both from the same piece of stone reinforces that connection in a very physical way, with each taonga carrying part of the same origin.

The Roimata form traditionally represents healing, strength, empathy, and emotional connection. Worn close to the heart, these taonga act as reminders of the people we carry with us and the relationships that continue across distance and time.

The Kahurangi Pounamu has a bright green translucency with strong vivid inclusions that give the stone depth and individuality. Both pieces have been shaped with soft rounded curves that taper gently toward the base, creating a comfortable and balanced form to wear. They are finished with black three-hole ring bolt lashings and black adjustable cords.
