Bald Eagle Feather – Yukon Jade

This feather is based on the idea of the Native Americans Bald Eagle Feather that is so precious to that culture.

There are many aspects to the the shape of a feather that I have come to appreciate through carving this.  No part is symmetrical.

The jade this is made of is from the Yukon in America which is fitting for the design and the significance of it.  It is of a very high grade with a fine grain, this makes the stone hard but the carving more consistent which is necessary for confident carving at this level of detail as it will chip or flake less.

The translucency of this jade is stunning.  Being able to see into the jade like this adds depth and character to any carving.

I am very proud of this pendant, I consider it amongst my best work so far.

Recently, I had the honor of undertaking a unique commission – replicating a beloved wahaika pendant. The original wahaika, a traditional Māori short club design, the client had…
