Aroha Marama
I’m excited to share my latest creation – a commissioned pendant made from Aroha Stone. This piece is a circle (porohita) shape with an offset hole and black lashing.
Aroha Stone is known for its deep red colour and natural patterns. “Aroha” means love in Māori, making this stone special for pieces that carry emotional meaning. The rich, warm tones of the Aroha Stone make each piece unique, ensuring that no two pendants are the same. This stone is a beautiful reminder of love, compassion, and connection.
The circle, or porohita, is a powerful symbol in many cultures, representing unity, eternity, and completeness. In Māori culture, the circle is also seen as a representation of the moon (marama). The offset hole in this pendant adds a modern touch to the traditional shape, symbolising our individual journeys and the unique paths we take in life. It’s a reminder that while our paths may be different, we are all connected.
This pendant measures 45mm across and is carefully crafted to highlight the natural beauty of the Aroha Stone. The offset hole gives it a distinctive look, while the black lashing made from half hitches provides both strength and style. The three-braid pattern used in the lashing adds an extra layer of durability and detail to the piece. Each element of the pendant is designed to ensure it is both visually appealing and robust enough for everyday wear.
This Aroha Stone porohita pendant is a simple yet meaningful piece. It was a pleasure to craft this special piece, and I hope it brings joy and connection to its new owner.
