Aotea Roimata – Te Māramatanga

This Roimata is carved from Aotea, a rare and beautiful stone found only in a single river valley in South Westland. At 55mm long, it has a strong and simple shape – a tapered drop that draws the eye downward, grounding the wearer. Roimata traditionally symbolises healing, release, and the flow of emotion – like tears, rain, or water running down the face of the land.

The stone itself is striking. Aotea is a unique blend of Fuchsite, Kyanite, and Quartz. In this piece, the colours move from soft blue to deep green, with tiny crystal inclusions catching the light. It’s a taonga that carries presence – cool to the touch, calming to hold, and deeply connected to the whenua it comes from.

Aotea is considered a taonga stone alongside Pounamu. It holds its own mana, its own energy – and in this Roimata form, it reflects understanding, clarity, and inner strength.
