Toki Tū
The toki, a traditional Māori adze, holds a significant place in Aotearoa’s history. More than just a tool, the toki was essential to Māori life pre-colonization, used for shaping wood for everything from waka (canoes) to whare (houses). It symbolized strength, authority, and connection to ancestors and the land.
I am honored to present “Toki Tū,” a stunning Hapopo Pounamu Toki pendant that pays homage to the enduring power and beauty of Māori artistry. This statement piece, measuring 85mm, is crafted from translucent Hapopo Pounamu, a type of greenstone known for its rich, vibrant color that seems to glow from within.
“Tū,” in Te Reo Māori, embodies concepts of strength, courage, and determination. This name not only reflects the visual power of the toki but also speaks to the resilience and spirit of those who wear it. Though large, this toki is surprisingly wearable, perfect for those who want to make a bold statement while carrying a piece of Aotearoa’s heritage. Its smooth, polished surface and elegant curves make it a pleasure to wear.
