Whanau Porohita Whā
This set has an incredible and significant meaning and purpose.
The brief was to create something for the whanau of four from the same source that fit together kinda like a jigsaw, to represent and strengthen the connection and whanaungatanga of them.
This commission is a great example of an idea coming together in the organic fashion of what the intent is and what the shape and character of the pounamu we are working with has. These pieces are a great reminder that whanau are always there even when they are not together.
The porowhita/circle has significance, and even more so when all the people and the pendants of this set need to come together to create it. It is a symbol of the journey of life. It represents discovery, choices, and centers the wearer in the present while acknowledging the past and the future. It can be used to represent being centered, present, and focused especially when relating to people.
