Description
Te Marama Tangiwai – “The Tangiwai Moon” – is a 65mm Roimata, hand-carved from a remarkable piece of Tangiwai Pounamu (Bowenite). This stone was found as a beach boulder, and with each cut, it revealed more surprises. The colours range from rich golds to deep greens and earthy browns, but when held to the light, it truly comes alive, glowing like the moon through mist.
Tangiwai is one of the rarest types of Pounamu, known for its translucency and deep spiritual significance. The Roimata shape represents tears, healing, and emotional strength, making this a meaningful taonga for those seeking connection, resilience, and guidance.
This piece is part of a special journey, from discovery to carving. The entire process—from finding the stone, cutting it open, and uncovering its glow, to shaping it into this final form—has been documented in a video.
A truly unique taonga, reflecting the beauty hidden within nature and the stories waiting to be told.
