Description
Named Whakaatu, meaning ‘to reveal’ or ‘to show clearly,’ this piece speaks to the hidden beauty and strength that emerges when seen in the right light.
Carved by Paul Berry from exceptionally translucent Tangiwai Pounamu found at Awatuna Beach, this 65mm Toki carries the appearance of the forest floor in motion. The stone has rich green hues with soft depth and clarity that comes alive when held to the light—revealing subtle layers like leaf litter, water, and filtered sun.
The shape is a stylised waterfall Toki with multiple planes carved into the front, giving a sense of flow and movement. It curves naturally from top to base, with shifting angles that reflect light differently depending on how it’s worn or viewed.
Tangiwai is the oldest form of Pounamu and is often associated with clarity—of mind, spirit, and purpose. This piece reflects that with grace. It symbolises the ability to move with strength and softness, grounded in nature and carried forward with intention.
