Description
This large Hei Toki is carved from deep green Kawakawa Pounamu and measures 110mm long. The shape follows a classic toki form with flat bevelled edges and a curved front face that flows smoothly down to the cutting edge.
A striking natural line runs through the centre of the stone like a lightning strike, creating a bold contrast within the deep green Pounamu. This feature inspired the name Uira Ara and the kaupapa of the piece.
One side shows the sharp lightning-like line through the stone, while the other side carries softer clouded patterning, like the lingering atmosphere after lightning passes.
The Hei Toki represents strength, determination, and the ability to carve a path forward. In this taonga, the lightning feature reinforces that meaning â a reminder to move with purpose and shape your own direction.
