Description
This large Kōuma breastplate, named Te Tūāpapa o te Manawa – The Foundation of the Heart – is carved from beautiful Tākiri Pounamu from Douglas Creek. At 75mm high and 110mm wide, it has a strong, solid form that holds most of its weight near the base. The stone features vibrant greens, dark inclusions, and white highlights, echoing the rugged character of the whenua it came from. The Kōuma sits near the heart and symbolises strength, resilience, and protection. Worn across the chest, it reminds the wearer of their inner power and connection to the world around them. This taonga features a black ringbolt lashing and comes on a hand-braided cord.
