Description
Named Pūtake, meaning foundation or source, this 140mm pendant carved by Paul Berry from Kawakawa Pounamu is a powerful metaphor for emotional grounding. The design flows in a long, elegant Roimata form—freeform and curved, shaped to represent the strength that comes from being deeply rooted in one’s emotions.
The cord hole is incorporated into the upper section of the form, continuing the gentle line of the stone’s flow. It reflects how even practical elements can be woven into the shape of our growth—seamless, thoughtful, and full of purpose.
Roimata, or teardrop, speaks of healing, comfort, and release. But in Pūtake, the form goes further—it symbolises the idea that true strength comes not from resistance but from being grounded in feeling. It is from that stable emotional footing that we find the clarity and courage to move forward.
Kawakawa Pounamu is known for its deep, rich greens and its grounding wairua. This taonga is not just for remembrance or comfort, but for anchoring. It offers a reminder that emotional depth is not a weight but a launching place—a source of resilience and direction.
