Description

This toki is carved from deep green Kawakawa Pounamu, with soft white, cloudy inclusions running through the stone. These markings give a sense of movement, like a pathway forming through the material itself.

The form leans into the idea of direction and progress. The angled, curved base shifts the feel of the piece, giving it a forward motion rather than a purely grounded stance. It speaks to movement along a path, not just standing firm but continuing on.

Te Ara Whakairo translates to “the path that is shaped or carved.” It reflects the idea that our direction in life is not something we simply follow, but something we actively create through choices, effort, and intention.

The toki remains a symbol of strength and purpose, but here that strength is expressed through movement and shaping over time. Not force, but steady progress.

Finished with a bar lashing and a tan three-braided cord, the lighter tones contrast the depth of the stone, keeping the overall feel balanced and natural.
