Description
Te Ao Huna speaks to the idea that there is often more beneath the surface than first appears. Like many things in life, the deeper character of this taonga is revealed through time, attention, and a change in perspective. What appears simple at first glance gradually reveals hidden detail and beauty.
The Roimata is a form associated with healing, resilience, reflection, and connection. Worn close to the heart, it can represent the people, experiences, and memories that remain with us throughout our lives. Its flowing shape allows the meaning of the taonga to be carried in a personal and individual way.
This 55mm Roimata is carved from dark green Kawakawa Pounamu and has been tumbled to create a soft organic form. The natural shaping process produces gentle curves and subtle variations that give the piece a unique character. While the stone appears richly dark green under normal light, its true depth becomes apparent when held to the sun. Light shines through the Pounamu, revealing darker streaks and inclusions within the stone that create a striking internal landscape. A traditional black Roimata lashing completes the piece, allowing the beauty of the Pounamu to remain the focus.
