Description
This Hei Toki is carved from gorgeous blue-grey Inanga Pounamu sourced from the Tasman region. The stone from this area is known for being exceptionally fine-grained, giving it a smooth, refined finish and a calm, steady look. At the base, the toki carries a soft crescent-shaped cutting edge, like a half moon, adding a natural sense of movement and flow to the piece.
The lashing is completed in black, grounding the design, while the cord brings together blues, greens, and dark brown to echo the colours of the Pounamu itself. The toggle is carved from the same stone so the whole taonga stays connected to its source.
Traditionally, the Hei Toki symbolises strength, capability, perseverance, and learning. It speaks of the work done in silence, the resilience built through experience, and the quiet confidence that comes from growing your skills over time. The half-moon curve at the base adds another layer of meaning, suggesting guidance, steady progress, and the rhythm of cycles in life.
This taonga holds a calm presence. It is a reminder to move with intent, to grow at your own pace, and to trust the path you are shaping.
