Description

Te Au Huri translates to “the turning current.” Au refers to a current or flow, like water moving with purpose. Huri means to turn, rotate, or change direction. Together, they describe movement that is not chaotic, but natural and ongoing. Life shifts. We turn. We adapt. We move forward, sometimes looping back, but always shaped by the current we are part of.

That idea of movement and growth sits at the heart of this piece. The cabochon is carved from Fuchsite (often pronounced “fuse-site”), a chromium-rich green mica known for its subtle shimmer and reflective quality. As light catches the stone, it reveals fine layers within, giving it a living depth rather than a flat surface. The mineral’s structure reflects light in a way that feels dynamic, reinforcing the concept of flow and movement.

The stone itself measures approximately 16mm long and 14mm wide in a clean, symmetrical oval. The form is balanced and calm, allowing the mineral to speak for itself. It is set with a sterling silver bail featuring spiral silverwork, and on the back of the pendant a silver spiral engraving mirrors that same motif. The spiral represents the path of growth — not straight, but turning and expanding over time.

Worn as a taonga, Te Au Huri symbolises resilience within change. It acknowledges that direction can shift without losing purpose. It is a reminder to trust the current you are part of, and to move with it rather than against it.
