Mana Rangatira Toki
This pounamu is to represent the man of the whanau. To support the Rangatiratanga – Leadership and Mana that he holds in this role.
A toki traditionally represents leadership, authority, and mana. This is very appropriate for the kaupapa of this pendant. Made for one man in particular.
The slice of pounamu that was chosen for this is from the Arahura River. You can see that the pendant came from the middle of this boulder where the deep green Kawa Kawa pounamu is. Often the, but not always, the strongest and best quality is found in the core of a large boulder with edges being less strong, that was definitely the case with this piece.
