Kawa Kawa Toki with Koru

This toki has a traditional style that is inspired by actual artifacts that were made to be used as tools in Pre-European Times. This pounamu has some cool patterns and character to it too.
This piece was made for a special couple to commemorate their wedding. The double koru is a symbol of coming together to make one of two, it is unity, it is kotahitanga. This piece on pounamu is from South Westland in Aotearoa, and has been set in a piece of Rimu.
This is what is sounds like, a toki with a pikorua carved into it. The pikorua is on the back. The 5 notches on the sides are to represent whanau members. It is interesting to see some of the process to carve the pikorua into this toki.
