This 55mm Toki is carved from Ōnewa, a dense and weighty basalt sourced from Akaroa on Te Pātaka o Rākaihautū (Banks Peninsula). Formed through volcanic activity millions of years ago, this stone embodies endurance and strength. The Toki is a significant taonga in Aotearoa, once a practical tool and later a symbol of leadership and resilience. When carved from Ōnewa, it carries a deep connection to the whenua, representing perseverance, determination, and the ability to carve one’s own path. This piece features an earthy tan lashing and a 4-braid cord, complementing the natural tones of the stone. A powerful taonga, grounded in the history and strength of Aotearoa.
