Description

This 78mm Toki is carved from Kawakawa Pounamu and features a unique scroll-shaped form at the top, where the neck cord threads through. The body of the Toki retains its classic rectangular shape and presence, with the pale rind of the stone intentionally left on one side. This combination of bold form and organic detail reflects both strength and elegance.

Traditionally, the Toki symbolises strength, determination, and leadership. It is a taonga associated with those who take action and carry responsibility. With this piece, the scroll motif softens the upper edge, drawing in the sense of learning, thoughtfulness, and knowledge. It’s a design that brings together the authority of a leader with the insight of a thinker.

The stone itself – rich Kawakawa Pounamu with pale rind – is deeply tactile and grounding. The scroll curves are fluid in the hand, creating a piece that invites touch and reflection. This is a taonga for someone who carries mana through both action and understanding. For someone whose leadership lies not only in presence, but in intellect, humility, and heart.

The name Mana Mātau reflects this blend: mana for strength, presence, and authority; mātau for knowledge, skill, and understanding. Together, they express a form of leadership grounded in wisdom.
