Description

This 8cm wide Kōuma was carved from Serpentine Pounamu I found on a beach here in Aotearoa. The green and earthy tones inside are framed by a bright orange rind. Finished with a three-hole ringbolt lashing in brown and a black braided cord, it sits close to the chest as a symbol of protection and resilience.

Kōuma breastplates represent inner strength and the support of ancestors. This taonga, named Te Whakaata o te Onepū or The Reflection of the Sand, reminds us to look beneath the surface, to notice beauty in the overlooked, and to carry strength quietly.
