Description

At 90mm long, this Niho has strong lines and a commanding form, carved from dark Marutea Pakohe. The stone is dense and smooth, with a fine-grained texture that gives it a quiet strength. Its rich grey tone and subtle natural variation make it both bold and refined.

The Niho shape, inspired by tooth forms, carries traditional meanings of protection, strength, and endurance. It draws on the idea of holding fast, facing challenges with determination and resilience. These ideas are echoed in the name Manawanui — steadfast, enduring.

This piece is suspended with a five-hole ringbolt lashing in black cord, a feature that adds both visual interest and a sense of weight and purpose. The multi-hole lashing anchors the taonga securely while allowing it to sit cleanly across the chest.

Crafted for those who appreciate presence, simplicity, and meaning, this is a taonga made to last generations.
