Description

This toki is carved from rich, deep green Kawakawa Pounamu, carrying subtle white, cloudy inclusions that shift and reveal themselves as the light moves across the surface. These natural markings give the stone a sense of depth and quiet character.

The form draws inspiration from the whao, the chisel. Traditionally a tool of shaping and creation, and in a modern sense, the pen or tool of an artist. This influence comes through in the angled base and the overall presence of the piece, giving it a grounded, purposeful feel.

The toki itself symbolises strength, determination, and the ability to shape one’s own path. Combined with the influence of the whao, this piece speaks to creating, refining, and putting in the work to bring something meaningful into the world.

It is finished with a bar lashing across the top and a three-braided black cord, keeping the design simple and strong, allowing the stone and its form to lead.
