Description

This kōuma breastplate is carved from a very distinctive piece of Inanga Pounamu, measuring 55mm across and 40mm high. The stone is dominated by oxidised rind, giving it warm tones that move from deep orange through to soft, pale orange, layered over very light green hues beneath. These colours give the piece a grounded, earthy feel that is quite different from more typical green-dominant Inanga.

The kōuma form sits close to the heart and is traditionally associated with protection, inner strength, and resilience. Worn against the chest, it is a reminder of steadiness and endurance, especially during times that call for courage and calm resolve. This piece is finished with a five-hole ring bolt lashing across the top in black cord, giving it a strong, balanced presence while allowing the stone itself to remain the focus.
