Description

Carved by David Curtis, this 65mm niho is shaped from beautiful apple green pounamu, highlighted by soft pale natural markings that give the stone its own unique character. Polished to a high finish, the pendant combines graceful curves with bold sculpted points, creating a design that feels both elegant and powerful.

The pendant is suspended from a single drop hole, while three carefully carved openings along one side become a distinctive feature of the design. Fine carved channels lead into each opening, visually linking them together. These three openings can represent many ideas, including the connection between the past, present, and future—a reminder that our lives are shaped by those who came before us, the choices we make today, and the legacy we leave for future generations.

Inspired by the niho, or tooth, this form traditionally symbolises strength, courage, protection, and resilience. It also carries associations with taniwha, powerful guardians within Māori tradition, representing inner strength, guardianship, and respect for the natural world.

Combining meaningful symbolism with striking craftsmanship and vibrant apple green pounamu, this taonga is designed to be worn and treasured for years to come.
