Description
Te Rerekētanga o te Ara is a Hei Matau shaped by change and shifting direction.
Carved by David Curtis, this 75mm piece holds a strong, angular form, but it’s the offset bevels that define it. They don’t follow the outer edges. One side rises outward, the other pulls inward, creating contrast and movement across the surface. As the light moves, each face reveals something different.
The Kawakawa Pounamu brings a deep, steady green that grounds the piece. It balances the shifting planes with a sense of weight and calm.
As a Hei Matau, it carries the meaning of provision and safe passage. In this form, it speaks more to adapting along the way — holding direction even when the path changes. The offset lines reflect that idea: not perfectly aligned, but still working together.
Carved by David Curtis, this taonga reflects a way of working that accepts variation and finds strength in it.
