Toki Mātaki – Mana Range

Named Toki Mātaki, meaning to gaze, observe, or watch closely, this 90mm Toki is a standout taonga from Paul Berry’s Mana Range. Carved from rare Blue Eye Pounamu sourced from the Takaka region, this piece features a swirling forest green body with a stunning patch of vivid blue at its centre—resembling an eye of awareness set into the ngahere.

The design is a stylised waterfall Toki, freeformed with graceful curves and multi-plane carving along the front. These surfaces catch and reflect light from all angles, adding energy and movement to the piece. It’s finished with a strong bar lashing at the top and includes a matching triangular toggle—designed to complement the carved planes and angles.

The Toki represents strength, determination, and grounded purpose. In this taonga, those meanings are elevated by the striking presence of the blue eye—like inner clarity or insight emerging from a life rooted in nature. It’s a piece that draws attention but also invites reflection.
