Description

This Rau (leaf) Pounamu pendant symbolises growth, renewal, and connection to the natural world. The leaf shape reflects the constant cycle of change—just as leaves grow, fall, and regenerate, we also move through different stages of life, carrying knowledge and experience with us. It serves as a reminder of adaptability, resilience, and the deep ties we have to the whenua.

Carved from stunning Kahurangi Pounamu, this piece is highly translucent, with significant cloudy white patterning that adds depth and uniqueness. Kahurangi Pounamu is prized for its clarity and brightness, often associated with excellence and aspiration. The mist-like patterns within this taonga evoke images of shifting clouds or morning mist rolling over the land, reinforcing the theme of transformation and new beginnings.

This pendant was shaped through a shared carving experience between my daughter and I, reflecting the learning and connection that comes from working with Pounamu. The natural flow of the stone guided the final form, ensuring that its beauty and meaning remain at the heart of the piece.

Wearing this Rau Pounamu pendant is a way to honour personal growth, the ever-changing journey of life, and a deep appreciation for the natural world.
