7cm Traditional Toki
This toki has a traditional style that is inspired by actual artifacts that were made to be used as tools in Pre-European Times. This pounamu has some cool patterns and character to it too.

This pounamu toki, which I’ve named Kia Maia (“be brave”), is so much more than a beautiful piece of jewelry. It’s a symbol of everything about the recipient – strength, resilience, and a heart filled with warmth. The toki itself, a traditional Maori treasure, represents the courage and determination that I know guides our spirits….
The name “Whānau Kōtuitui” paints a vivid picture. Meaning “Family Binding”, it captures the soul of this collection. These three pieces were made for speakers at a conference. I love the colours in the flower jade kuru. The tokis are super long and based on old functional designs that are now displayed in museums and books as historical examples. The photos on the black seem a bit overexposed and bright with really strong…
Traditional inganga toki, about 8cm long. I really like the character the seams and healed fractures add to this piece. They look really good with the honey coloured lashing too. It is always interesting to see the transformation from a rough block of pounamu into the finished toki.
